Mace

Again written by Matt Leibel, we paired up on these, and the concept was to treat Mace as if it were a luxurious fragarance. Then the punch comes at the end. Ba Zing!

BEAUTY is in the way he squirms when the oil hits his eyes.

DESIRE has been replaced by an unpleasant burning sensation.

UNFORGETTABLE is how he'll describe the debilitating facial pain.

Bay Meadows

I don't know how far back the tradition of betting on horses goes, but the antiquated ads they were using seemed to have come from the same time period. Our pitch was to spruce up the racing world advertising at Bay Meadows Racecourse.

Smith Corona

Noisy, clunky, outmoded. The only thing they do well is shock the world.

Awkward, impractical, and out of step with time. Like most writers worth a damn.

Painfully slow. The speed at which great ideas come.

Matt wrote the copy for these ads on his typewriter. Then brought the mimeographs over to my desk to make designs from.
